IMF- WORLD BANK SPRING MEETINGS 2025
By: Alexa Dominique Pascual
The recognition of young professional policy makers is growing that diverse perspectives are vital for addressing the world's complex challenges, like economic uncertainty, climate change, and rising inequalities. Critical decision-making spaces that shape future policies frequently exclude young professionals.
We, The DMUN Foundation team undertook an initiative at the IMF- World Bank Spring Meetings to alter the status quo.
During the week, we represented next-generation voices in high-level discussions with world leaders and global development experts, including finance ministers. Our consistent interactions proved that young professionals should be at the necessary decision-making tables and showed how our input is essential for creating inclusive and progressive worldwide solutions.
We started our initiatives on Day 1 by interviewing African and Ukrainian delegates to discuss regional development alongside resilience and the significance of youth involvement in diplomatic processes. The discussions revealed that including youth enhances global partnerships and strengthens community relationships.
The program on Day 2 concentrated on worldwide development priorities, which included women's rights, inclusive economic growth, and workforce development. Our team delivered research insights and presented young professional perspectives on finance and debt issues, demonstrating that young professionals offer innovative thinking to economic policy development.
Our advocacy initiatives reached another level of progress by Day 3. My intervention highlighted the significance of young professionals for research and policy analysis on an international scale when it comes to policies about debt, global economics and economic development. During the civil society organization roundtable discussion with the Executive Director for EDS19, who represents multiple nations across different regions in Eastern Europe. We held discussions about Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania's development requirements while presenting policy ideas to train future leaders in diplomacy and governance.
During Days 4 and 5, our participation advanced into the highest-level meetings and dialogues. The IMF Director and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Finance held press briefings, which we attended. Throughout our contribution to private sector partnerships, we maintained a youth-focused approach in the energy, finance and labor sectors. Through a strategic meeting with the World Bank's Lead for Stakeholder Engagement, we had the opportunity to push for established pathways that would enhance youth participation in policy development.
Our message was clear: Young professionals serve as vital contributors in the present while also becoming future leaders.
We, the DMUN Foundation, demonstrated with pride how policymaking benefits from youth engagement during the meetings. Our work brings practical results and committed action as young people contribute with data-driven research, global networks, and grassroots perspectives to support inclusive development.
The current swift transformation and complex global issues demand active youth participation within the international policy framework. Institutions must maintain access for young professionals to participate in advisory roles and leadership positions as we progress.
Our team's participation and active engagement at this year's IMF- World Bank Spring Meetings demonstrated that young people deserve a place in decision-making spaces which enhance global policy results.
